Concrete needle vibrators
A concrete needle vibrator, also known as an internal or immersion vibrator, is a tool used to compact fresh concrete by inserting a vibrating head into the mix. This process removes trapped air bubbles and excess moisture, reduces internal friction between particles, and consolidates the concrete into a dense, strong, and void-free mass. It is commonly used in walls, columns, and other narrow sections, where the vibrating head is moved through the concrete to ensure uniform compaction. How it works A motor drives an eccentric weight, which creates high-frequency vibrations. These vibrations are transmitted from the motor through a flexible shaft to a vibrating head (the “needle”). When the needle is inserted into fresh concrete, it causes the mixture to temporarily “slump” or liquefy, making it more fluid. This liquefaction allows trapped air bubbles to rise to the surface and escape. As the vibration continues, the concrete particles settle into a denser, more compact arrangement. The operator then slowly withdraws the vibrator, repeating the process at regular intervals to ensure the entire volume of concrete is properly compacted.
